For decades, ‘vrijzinnige ontmoetingscentra’ (secular humanist meeting centres) have been serving as quintessential gathering places for freethinkers in Flanders and Brussels. Guided by their own, non-denominational outlook on life, secular humanists have, since the second half of the twentieth century, increasingly asserted their place at a local level, both literally and figuratively.
